Swimming in Ocala National Forest
Magnificant springs form the basis for swimming holes in the Ocala National Forest, the water a constant temperature year-round and crystal-clear, excellent for snorkeling to see fish and other freshwater marine life.
Swimming Safety
Swim with a companion.
Know your limits; if you aren’t a strong swimmer, wear a life jacket.
Never, ever swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Always watch your children. Beaches are unguarded, and there may be sharp dropoffs near shore.
Dive only in familiar areas, and check water depth before diving.
Do not swim at boat ramps or marinas due to the potential for electric shock drowning.
Avoid dams and dam spillways. Water flowing over dams can draw you into the face of the dam and hold you under water.
Watch children closely when they are playing on rear swim decks or water platforms for signs of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Swim and enjoy other activities away from areas where gasoline-powered engines vent their exhaust.
