Swimming in Ocala National Forest

Magnificant springs form the basis for swimming holes in the Ocala National Forest, the water a constant temperature year-round and crystal-clear, excellent for snorkeling to see fish and other freshwater marine life.

Swimming Safety

  • Swim with a companion.

  • Know your limits; if you aren’t a strong swimmer, wear a life jacket.

  • Never, ever swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • Always watch your children. Beaches are unguarded, and there may be sharp dropoffs near shore.

  • Dive only in familiar areas, and check water depth before diving.

  • Do not swim at boat ramps or marinas due to the potential for electric shock drowning.

  • Avoid dams and dam spillways. Water flowing over dams can draw you into the face of the dam and hold you under water.

  • Watch children closely when they are playing on rear swim decks or water platforms for signs of carbon monoxide poisoning.

  • Swim and enjoy other activities away from areas where gasoline-powered engines vent their exhaust.
